After our first class in April, here is what one of the participants said about her experience: “The effects of Amy’s Restorative class reverberated into the days following it. The class itself is restful, calming and opening, but not for Amy who works very hard to bring the students gently out of each posture, to demonstrate the poses and to make sure each student has what he/she needs to be supported in the postures.”

Restorative yoga is designed to heal the body by helping the relaxation response kick in to balance the nervous system and optimize energy flow to the organs. The postures also lift immune function, enhance the process of digestion, aid in the transition to sleep, and set up the whole body for deep healing, growth and repair. This practice also allows you to see where you hold habitual tension so that little by little, you start to create more space in those places by slowing down the breath and shifting the nervous system toward a state of recovery, repair and restoration.

Enjoy 6-8 supported postures held for 10-15 minutes each…allowing breath to guide you to a deeper level. When you are in passive postures supported by props, using no muscular effort, the focus is on relieving the grip of muscular and inner tension, so you can be more spacious and receptive. There is no goal of stretching or strengthening. You are exploring what happens when you slowly release your habitual way of holding. You will be surprised at the deep state of relaxation you can get into when placed in the right conditions.

Please bring your mat and any props you have at home like blocks, blankets, bolsters, pillows, eye bags, etc. If you have none of these, come anyway – we have some to share.
